About Tessa

Qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher

I am now pleased to be teaching in the Southampton and Ringwood area. I've practised yoga for many years and qualified as an Iyengar yoga teacher in 1997. Since then I've taught in health and fitness clubs, leisure centres and run private classes.

As a student and a teacher I have travelled to the Mediterranean and India practising yoga. I recently spent 3 years living in the French Alps teaching regular classes and workshops, as well as running yoga and skiing holidays. As with sport in the UK, yoga was the perfect antidote to the physical and mental stresses on the body of skiing and mountaineering.

All Iyengar teachers are rigorously trained to the highest standard and our training is monitored yearly - we hold the international Iyengar Yoga Certification Mark, a symbol of excellence and authenticity in teaching the Iyengar method in its purest form.

Why did I start yoga?

I've always been active and health conscious but exercise classes, aerobics and the gym never really appealed to me. Walking my dogs, cycling, tennis and recently skiing were my main forms of exercise.

I was interested in yoga but had no idea what to expect at my first class; it was a revelation! My teachers inspired me; I loved the physical challenges of yoga, the increased self-awareness and wonderful feeling of relaxation.

Why do I teach yoga?

It 's changed my life for the better and the reason I teach is to share my experience with as many people as possible. I also have personal experience of the healing and restorative qualities of Iyengar yoga - as an adult I was hospitalised because of an asthma attack; my practice has cured me of the condition.

What role does yoga play in my life now?

Wherever I am yoga will always be important in my life - my regular practice keeps me healthy in mind, body and spirit.
